Las Vegas Travel Guide

About Las Vegas

A sparkling strip of neon in the middle of the Mojave Desert, Las Vegas is as enigmatic as it is flashy and boisterous. However, Vegas has recently turned over a new leaf in its legendarily raucous book. You’ll find luxurious spas, eco-friendly initiatives, and organic-focused restaurants and cafes going shoulder to shoulder with the usual bars, casinos, and amusements scattered along The Strip. For those seeking a different side of Las Vegas, exploring things to do in Las Vegas besides gambling can lead you to discover a city with diverse and unexpected attractions.

Translated to “The Meadows’ in Spanish, Las Vegas is far from a green and leafy escape, but its distant mountains will certainly appeal to nature and outdoorsy lovers. While most visitors might not equate Las Vegas with health and wellness, with its penchant for debauchery, there is a surprisingly diverse amount of wellbeing focused retreats and relaxing spa experiences on offer. Sin City just might be your one-stop shop for all things rejuvenating if you know where to look!

Best Time To visit

The best time to visit Las Vegas is in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall in the months of March, April, and May, along with September, October, and November. Rainfall is rare but peaks in August when the city can see up to 1 inch, and a passing afternoon thunderstorm isn’t out of the question.

Summer in Las Vegas can be positively scorching, making it an unpleasant time to visit. Temperatures from June to August average above 100 and surpass 105 regularly. However, if you’re hoping to lounge by the pool and work on your tan, the shoulder months and even into winter will be perfectly warm enough. The winter months of December through February are warm during the day but can plummet well below freezing at night. This is the desert, after all!

What to expect

Perhaps Las Vegas should be deemed the “City That Never Sleeps.” Night on the strip might as well be daytime with its endless array of flashing signage and searchlights scanning the skies, luring in travelers who are looking for an indulgent time in the desert. However, while Las Vegas used to be all-party, the city has started improving and expanding its offerings, welcoming newcomers with family-friendly experiences and health-focused activities.

For those seeking a wellness and health-conscious trip, Las Vegas might be the perfect place to sink your teeth into an eco-friendly spa splurge or sip a luxurious fairtrade latte. The city has started taking its green initiatives seriously and turning its eyes toward luxury offerings that align with a renewed sense of well-being. So whether you’re craving a weekend filled with gourmet eats and all-night parties, a getaway focused on mindful self-care, or a combination of the two, you’ll find it all in Vegas!

Things to know

Some might be surprised to know that Las Vegas is a hub for outdoor activities and a great base to visit some of the United States’ best national parks, including the Grand Canyon. So whether you want death-defying feats like rock climbing or a glimpse at one of the most impressive natural wonders in the world, Las Vegas could be the perfect weekend destination.

Best Day Trip from Las Vegas

Las Vegas is an excellent base for those who love the outdoors and the U.S. national park system. Most of the best day trips are geared towards stunning natural scenery and beautiful hikes with monuments like the Hoover Dam. If this sounds like your cup of tea, rent a car and drive out to the natural wonders of The Grand Canyon, soak up the sun at Lake Mead, or take in the magnitude of the Hoover Dam.

What’s The Best Month To Go To Vegas?

The best month to visit Las Vegas depends on what you want from your trip—looking for fewer crowds and cooler temperatures? January is perfect. Do you want to be a part of the party and soak up the sun? April and October might be the best months for you. Avoid the summer months of June through August if you want to avoid the scorching heat and unavoidable hordes of people.

Best Wellness Experiences in Vegas

Las Vegas has become an incredible destination for wellness and spa treatments. So whether you want to soak away your worries in the Roman Baths at Qua Spas, sweat out the previous days of indulgence in the saunas, or choose from over 100 experiences and treatments at Las Vegas’s premier wellness destination Canyon Ranch, Vegas has a variety of spa options for you.

high-speed-train

how to get around

Las Vegas can be a congested and tricky city to try and navigate. Here are the best options for getting around, with a few tips depending on your preferred transportation.

Taxi / Rideshare (Uber, Lyft)

Taxi or a rideshare like Uber and Lyft is the best way to get around. Traffic congestion can become a headache during rush hour, but this is one of the most efficient ways to get around the city.

Bus

The bus system in Las Vegas runs 24 hours and is an inexpensive option. A double-decker shuttle option known as “The Deuce” runs from the airport all along the strip for less than $10 and is an excellent option for those who want to get to the strip from the airport.

Monorail

The monorail is the best option for those looking to get between the casinos quickly and efficiently. It runs from the MGM Grand to Sahara Avenue and hits all major hotels and casinos in between—monorails run from 7 am to midnight, seven days a week.

Car Rental

For those considering making day trips from Las Vegas, like the Grand Canyon or the Hoover Dam, a car rental allows you to stop when you want and get around town quickly. You have endless options for car rentals in Las Vegas at the airport and in the center of town.

Walking

The Las Vegas strip is sprawling and notorious for appearing like things are close together when most of the major sites are spread out. Combine this with the summer heat, and you have a recipe for a potentially miserable stroll if you aren’t careful. Research your must-see’s before your trip to investigate if walking is the best option for getting around.
