Best Time To visit

When most travelers think of London weather, they picture dreary days filled with rain and blustery winds. The truth is that London sees an average of 148 days of precipitation throughout the year, with about 2 inches of consistent rain each month. Summers are mild, while winters in London see the occasional snowfall and chill.

If you want to visit London when prices for accommodations and activities aren’t at their highest, the best time to visit is in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall, from March to May and September to November. Even though London sees its fair share of sunny days, sunshine and blue skies are never guaranteed. So be sure to bring an umbrella, rain jacket, and even a pair of wellies, virtually any time of year.

Spring is particularly beautiful as winter gives way to warmer temperatures and flowers begin to bloom. However, prices start to climb at the beginning of May as the summer heralds the high season for tourism. If you prefer something other than crowds, avoid the city in the peak summer months of July and August.

What to expect

Sustainability is one of the most critical aspects of urban life for London’s ever-growing population. Like many bustling European metropolises, London is beginning to usher in a more sustainable approach to living and tourism. As a result, the city has gathered several accolades for its sustainability practices, including being named “The World’s Most Sustainable City” by the Arcadis Sustainable Cities Index in 2018, a remarkable feat for a metropolis of its size.

London continues to implement and devise green initiatives and has a plan in place for lowering emissions through electric public transportation. They have already kicked off their eco-friendly plan of action by establishing a network of thousands of public bikes, hybrid double-decker buses, and hydrogen transportation, offering the city countless options for sustainable transport. London also leads the world in green infrastructure and is particularly known for being a mecca of green buildings. Their rating system, known as BREEAM, was the first of its kind and is used specifically for the design of green infrastructure.

With over 11,000 acres of rolling green space, London is one of the greenest cities in Europe, despite its overwhelming size. Explore the city’s extensive park system or stroll along the undulating Thames River for a breath of fresh air amidst the bustling metropolitan.

For those looking for a wellness-centric destination, you’ve undoubtedly come to the right place, as health-focused businesses and tourism hot spots have exploded across London in recent years. From sipping natural wine from the far reaches of Europe to dining on organic produce in a stunning rooftop restaurant, this dynamic city truly has it all for wellness-conscious travelers at heart.

Things to know

Glittering London is just waiting to be explored. Here are a few things to remember when planning a trip to the U.K.’s capital.

Airports: London has three airports, Luton, Stansted, and Heathrow, which can be confusing. Heathrow is the largest airport and where you’ll probably be arriving if you’re flying internationally.

Driving: If you plan to rent a car in London, remember that the United Kingdom operates on the left-hand side of the road, and streets can be challenging to navigate in the city center.

-” Ta”: Thank you
-” Quid”: Money, pounds

-” Tellie”: TV

Some of the best stores to seek organic include Zest Organic Foods and Planet Organic. Whole Foods has also recently opened stores in the U.K.

Vegetarian/Vegan: London has endless options for vegan and vegetarian travelers. Not only will you not go hungry or find yourself seeking more, but you’ll be able to dine with the best of them and try virtually any traditional dish, including fish and chips, that have been made vegan.

Safety: London is considered one of the safest cities in Europe, but its status as one of the largest also means that petty crime is common. Keep valuables in a safe place while out and about, and avoid walking alone past dark.

While London can certainly be explored on foot, the best way to get around sustainably between landmarks in London is by bicycle, avoiding the traffic-clogged streets and taking in the fresh air. To get the full London experience, a ride in an iconic Black Cab or double-decker bus can’t be missed.

You may want to avoid The Tube during rush hour, from 5 to 7 pm during the week.

Bus: The iconic red double-decker buses aren’t just for tours; they are a vital part of London’s transportation system.

Riverboats: London’s riverboat system is a great way to spend time on the water and get to your next destination. The newest addition, UberBoat, allows passengers to sail up and down the Thames with stops at all the famous sights. Tickets start at just £5.20.
